The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.

A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
