19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
